Boredom - July 30th 2020

Life is so different right now.

This whole year has been a new experience for us all. Here in the US we’re still struggling daily with COVID-19 and, unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon. The first few months of us sitting idle were easier. But as time goes on we’re running out of things to do and boredom is hitting us earlier and earlier every day. Some days I wake up bored. How crazy is that? To actually wake up, and after I finish my morning routine, I’m already desperately searching for something to keep boredom at bay.

Those of us that still have jobs are working more from home (I’m almost exclusively at home while Kim is exclusively at home). Those of us that have lost our jobs, after searching for a new job, are left as idle as the rest of us. We’re a country of lost souls. Aimlessly wandering around our homes, waiting for something to happen. Literally anything to happen. We turn to social media to help us get at least some socialization in. But our days are still spent sitting… bored… lost.

The news only aggravates us. And our boredom fuels that aggravation. Sometimes we get angry over the silliest things. Our emotions are on edge. At times we feel great, other times we feel upset. We’re depressed. We need life to change. We need something to fill our time, something to keep the incessant boredom away.

The answer is so simple, but it’s not easy.

We have to DO something. LITERALLY anything at all. We just need to do it. Go outside and get some fresh air to clear your mind. Think of something you’ve always wanted to do and just go for it. Rosetta Stone yourself a new language. Pick up art. Love video games? Try your hand at design. MAKE something. Want to knit? DO IT! Woodworking is fun! Want to make yourself a knife and maybe get your side hustle on like this crazy Russian? https://www.etsy.com/shop/VASVERBLADES?ref=simple-shop-header-name&listing_id=711725865 (Pic below)

DO IT! Google knows literally everything. ANYTHING YOU WANT TO LEARN TO DO IS ON GOOGLE!

It’s so easy for us to read this. It’s even easier for me to type it all out. But here’s the key. Here’s how you win. Before you go to bed, tell yourself, “Tomorrow I’m going to do X.” When you wake up, tell yourself, “Today at X oclock I’m going to try this.”

It’s as easy as that. Simple as that. Put the responsibility on yourself. Shout the words out into the universe and you’ll have that encouragement you need to try whatever it is. Start with a list of interesting/fun ideas to try. That’s the smallest, least amount of effort there is. Just make a fun little list of things to do. Here’s mine:

Learn how to draw.

Learn a new language.

Become GOD Tier with my bow.

Write (always on the list)

Read up on history (always been fascinated with history)

Pick coding back up. We’ll start with Java.

Finally learn a full song on the guitar.

Aaaand I want to build or create something. It needs to be attainable, but also not immediately within reach. I WANT TO MAKE MY OWN BOW! YES! PERFECT!

Tomorrow, I’m going to absolutely CRUSH my workout and then I’m going to try my hand at drawing.

I’ll post up my progress next week!
