Consistency - July 24th 2020

This summer has been the summer of doing new things. A summer of firsts! First book, first (official) site, first blog post even. It’s been a wild ride, and I’m so glad and grateful to have friends and family that are extraordinarily supportive.

I’m not quite sure what to do with this blog. It should be informative, useful, fun, engaging. At the same time, it should not be political or purposefully controversial (always leave room for the future; pro gamer move right there). Everyone has something to say, but I’d rather not speak (or type) just for the sake of it.

And so we arrive at my attempt to be helpful and all that other junk.

Writing a book was a pain. It was long, tedious, (at times) boring, and even more than that, it was just hard. Hard to collect my thoughts, hard to create a story, hard to coalesce all the scenes and ideas in my head and have it flow down on paper. It’s still not done I suppose, changes can always be made and there are two more books in this series. BUT, the first one is a full and complete book that is published. All it took was consistency. That is the lesson of today.

I think we can all agree that it doesn’t take a genius to learn to do pretty much anything. It doesn’t take someone special or gifted to play an instrument. It doesn’t even take someone with abnormal physical attributes to be an excellent athlete. Consistency is the key. If you do anything enough times you’ll eventually move from an amateur to an expert. No degree or fancy education/training required. The more you draw, the better you become. The more you sing, the better you sound. Consistency! Create a schedule for yourself and do one thing a few times a week (or even every day). Play the guitar, draw, build, sing or write like I did. Just pick something up and have fun with it.

You’ll be surprised with how quickly you learn. And you’ll be amazed at how good you feel.

Now, a photo of me pondering what to eat next:
